Kings Square Rugby Takeover30 August | 10.30am – 7.00pm

Get ready for something truly special. On 30 August, Gloucester will host the biggest community rugby event the city has ever seen.

Taking place from 10.30am to 7.00pm, the Kings Square Rugby Takeover is your all-access pass to a day of fun, family, and full-on rugby action. This brand-new event is free to attend and will take over the heart of the city for one unforgettable Saturday.

Live sport on the big screen

Come down and catch the action as we show the Women’s Rugby World Cup matches live on our giant outdoor screen. It’s the perfect excuse to take a long lunch or spend the day enjoying the atmosphere. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just discovering the game, there’s something for everyone to enjoy across the day.

Community rugby takes centre stage

Rugby fun won’t be limited to the screen. Expect a packed line-up of live community sport and demos happening right in the square.

Kids can get involved in a tag rugby tournament, while adults can check out walking rugby and even underwater rugby, immersive VR experiences. You’ll be amazed at how inclusive and inventive rugby can be.

Live music and immersive experiences

The MusicWorks will keep the vibes high with live performances throughout the day. Expect good tunes, top talent, and a festival-style feel right in the centre of town.

The University of Gloucestershire will also open its doors to offer immersive rugby-themed experiences. Try your hand at, skill tests and tech-led experiences.

Food, drink and local flavour

Gloucester Food Dock is joining the party to keep everyone well fed and watered. Local favourites including Hetty’s and Hop Kettle’s beer van will be serving delicious street food and cold pints all day.

There’ll also be plenty of seating areas and chill-out spaces, so you can enjoy a full day out in style.

Meet the people keeping Gloucester safe

We’re also joined by the Police Community Safety team, who will have a display and be on hand to chat and support local engagement. Pop by to learn more about how they’re helping to keep Gloucester a safe and thriving place to live and work.
