Loungers set to bring new Lounge venue to Kings Square

Popular hospitality group Loungers, the company behind Cosy Club, Lounge and Brightside, has announced plans to open a brand-new Lounge in Kings Square. Known for its stylish interiors and relaxed atmosphere, the group has signed up to take on a 5,000 sq ft unit at the heart of the development.

Already a familiar name in the region with Portivo Lounge at Gloucester Quays and Cosy Club in Cheltenham, Loungers will now expand into the city centre. The new Lounge will create between 30–40 local jobs and serve a varied all-day menu, offering everything from brunch favourites to evening dishes, in surroundings designed to feel like a welcoming home from home.

Founded by three friends from Bristol, Loungers has always placed community at its core. Each Lounge encourages local connections, offering space for meetings, charity events and fundraisers, while providing a friendly setting for residents and visitors alike.

Alex Kalebic, Head of Acquisitions at Loungers, said: “We are delighted to be working with Gloucester City Council on this project. We are looking forward to bringing our well-loved family-friendly, all-day offer and second site to the city centre, and to playing our part at the heart of this exciting regeneration scheme.”

Loungers will shortly apply for planning permission and a premises licence, with proposals including outdoor seating overlooking the regenerated Kings Square public space and the University of Gloucester campus. If approved, the new venue is expected to open in Spring/Summer 2026.

The announcement follows hot on the heels of office and events operator Patch unveiling plans for its flagship site in The Forum, opposite Kings Square. With more tenants still to be announced, the new Lounge will add to the growing mix of attractions across King’s Quarter, which also includes the forthcoming Hotel Indigo with its rooftop bar and restaurant.

Jason Robinson, senior destination manager at King’s Walk, said: “We are excited to see another great brand coming into King’s Walk and Kings Square. This demonstrates both the draw of our city and the confidence that the business community has in our offering. This further enhances the overall offering of Kings Square. We are very much looking forward to an exciting future.”

With Loungers joining a strong line-up of leisure, retail and cultural operators, Kings Square is fast becoming a key destination for the city, offering new reasons for residents, students and visitors to spend time in the heart of Gloucester.
